All summer long, we'll be hosting "Kids Day at the Boathouse" every Tuesday from 3:30-6pm at the Oregon Boating Foundation boathouse (located at Port Dock 7 in Newport). Parents are welcome to bring their kids down to try out sailing and kayaking in a safe, supervised environment. There is no charge for this weekly event, and it is a heart-warming experience to watch the kids experiment with new boats and play around in the water.
As part of our mission to promote boating safety and education on the Oregon Coast, this weekly event is designed to introduce young people to sailing and kayaking. A group of OBF volunteers is on hand to provide assistance with equipment as well as "life guard" services while the kids are on the water.
Wetsuits or other appropriate cold-water clothing is required, of course. Life jackets and other safety gear are available at the boathouse, and kids (and their parents) are welcome to try out the JY Trainers, El Toros and sea kayaks that have been made available thanks to Joe Novello, Tom Murphy and the Yaquina Bay Yacht Club.
