Kayak Basic Strokes & Rescues (All Ages)
Learn the basics of sea kayaking with coaching from an American Canoe Association certified instructor.
Our Basic Strokes & Rescues class begins with some relatively brief land-based information about kayaks, equipment and topics related to kayak safety. From there we move on to the water, where instruction includes demonstrations and practice of a variety of paddle strokes, boat maneuvers and rescue skills. After that, we move to more informal instruction by going on a short kayak tour.
As a matter of safety, to be eligible for this class participants must be able to tread water for 2 minutes, swim 50 yards (fully clothed) and put on a personal flotation device (life jacket) while in the water. During the class participants will need to wear a well-fitted wetsuit or dry-suit and a Coast Guard approved life jacket with a whistle attached.
We will provide kayaks, paddles and related safety equipment for use during this class. If you have any questions about our classes please contact us.
