Experience the Historic Newport Bayfront

The perfect adventure for your family vacation at the Oregon Coast. Our guided kayak tours offer an incredible opportunity to get up close and personal with the wildlife, fishing community, and landmarks of Yaquina Bay and the Newport Bayfront. No experience is necessary. Available for ages 6 and up (children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult).

Our passionate, certified guides will introduce you to the fishing fleet that brings in more fresh seafood than any other port on the West Coast. Wildlife, including sea lions, harbor seals, eagles, and so much more await you during this unique two-hour kayak trip that is perfect for singles, couples, groups, and families.

Our 2-hour tours run from Tuesday through Sunday during the summer – starting at 9am, 12pm, 3pm, and 6pm. Whether you want to go for a quiet morning paddle or watch the sun set behind the historic Yaquina Bay bridge, we'll help you craft an unforgettable trip.

Our tours launch from the OBF Boathouse located at Port Dock 7 in Newport, Oregon. Please plan on arriving 20 minutes before your scheduled tour to maximize your time on the water. We look forward to taking you on a memorable adventure during your next vacation to Newport and the Oregon Coast.

What To Bring & Wear

Our guided kayak tours run "rain or shine", so you'll want to be prepared for the conditions on the day of your tour. Your feet will definitely get a little wet. Paddle jackets and pants are provided (in limited sizes). We recommend the following items:

  • Water bottle
  • Sunglasses and/or a hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Quick dry clothing (cotton is not recommended)
  • Extra layers (a windbreaker or rain jacket/pants)
  • Footwear that can get wet
  • Waterproof case for your smartphone and/or camera
  • Gratuity for your guide (optional, but appreciated!)

How To Find Us

Our tours launch from the OBF Boathouse located at Port Dock 7 in Newport, Oregon. Parking is available at the Port of Newport, with additional on-street parking on SE Bay Blvd. Please remember that Newport is a working port, so we ask that you be respectful and park closest to the street so that the fishermen who work at Port Dock 7 have priority access.

Once you have arrived, to get to the OBF Boathouse simply go down the access ramp to the docks, and take an immediate left at the bottom of the ramp (at the Chelsea Rose seafood barge). Walk past the sailboats and we're the first boathouse that you come upon.

    Knowledgeable & Friendly

Had an absolute blast with these young guides! They were knowledgeable, and friendly. Got to learn about Newport's commercial fishing fleet, and more. Great, and fun experience all around. And a great opportunity to support a local nonprofit focused on young adult education.

    Great Kayak Tour

The guided kayak tour was a lot of fun! It was such a great way to experience Yaquina Bay, and getting up close to the fishing boats and sea lions was really cool. I need more of that in my life.

    Amazing Opportunity

We live in a small town, and I had no idea my children would be able to have experiences that people in larger cities dream of having. They have had knowledgeable and kind instructors. I have never worried about my children when they were in the care of OBF instructors. Thanks for this incredible opportunity!

    Incredible Program

My son has not only learned skills to last him a lifetime but he has had fun doing it. He has made lasting friendships, developed confidence on the water and most importantly knows how to be safe. There is no better place to learn to sail or kayak and no better people to do it with!

I completed two sea kayak classes in 2017, and plan to attend another in 2018. I highly recommend the Oregon Boating Foundation, and my instructor Tom Murphy. You will be knowledgeable, confident, and competent when you're done.
